My STORY

Gene Davis, host

Be Passionate Creating Wealth!

When I asked Gene how he learned his work ethics... He mentioned, ..."When I was a young boy my Mom and Dad instilled great work ethics in me. They would remind me continually about the meaning of "being responsible, do what you had agreed upon and to do my best ...because you never know who is watching you." One of my favorites is when we would go camping as a family. They would teach me to "leave the campground clean and in at least the same condition or better than when we got there." This belief would roll over into my life for when I would borrow things. Always making sure they were returned in better condition or in the same condition as when I borrowed them.

I'd help my father wrench cars and trucks and build houses. He always kept me busy. Dad said things like, "Work hard so you can play hard!" "Always be responsible and accountable for everything you do!"

My mother would always volunteer me to help the widows in the neighborhood. Mom knew it would create a better "me" while reinforcing the things she taught me. Things like being respectful and honest to your fellow man/woman. Be a gentleman and open the doors for the ladies. I learned a lot from helping the widows out. I was able to help them do things they couldn't do for themselves. This also taught me how to time plan and manage myself. I was already busy...and as a kid you want to play too. You only have so much time in the day. I also learned to be respectful of those less fortunate than me. And to always give of yourself, when you can. I learned what was right and wrong. And what I ought to do. I learned it was not always about the money. It was in doing/being there for others when they needed it. And boy! Could those widows give big hugs of gratitude. Sometimes I would get a homemade pie and sit there and listen to their stories, while eating it. This time of my life also taught me patience. And to remember to stop and smell the roses no matter how busy I get!

When I got a little older I told my parents that I wanted to get more money, other than just getting paid to do chores around the house. They helped me get into business. I started out with my own business of doing oil changes and landscaping; In the spring and summer you'd find me cutting grass, trimming trees and bushes or removing weeds. In the winter months I shoveled snow and cleared ice. I had a paper route and at the age of 12, I worked part time for the county installing police car radios.

I remember when I was in high school, I worked for a diesel mechanics shop. I started off by being a mechanics "helper." On the weekdays and weekends when I wasn't playing football, baseball or wrestling, I'd be washing parts, pressure washing big trucks and heavy equipment while keeping the workshop spotless. I worked my way up to assistant parts manager and was on the wrecking/tow truck crew. The owner's name was Steve. He was a foreigner who came to the USA with only the shirt on his back. He made an impression on me about how important it is to run a very successful company. He taught me a lot about work ethics. Saying things like, “Whatever you want to have... you can get it. If you just put your mind into it and work hard. Don’t let others tell you that you cannot do it.” …I also learned a new mechanics/truckers language and had to watch my mouth around my mom and sisters.

At the age of 19, I owned a carpet cleaning business. Within a few years, and after hundreds of hours of marketing going door to door and business to business, I had expanded to be a complete disaster restoration and construction company. When I sold the company I had expanded into 2 States and had 64 employees. I started the company from the ground up.

Gene continues with some great advice:

"Good ethics comes from a lifetime of daily practices. I was schooled from the school of hard knocks! This gives you a super fast course in making sure you have the best work ethics in place, when you want to stay and grow your business. I then used all of my work experiences and life experiences to promote my success in the financial industry. I was in banking, loans, personal credit and business credit and funding. I decided I liked coaching, mentoring, and consulting. That's why I started helping other business owners understand how to grow and prosper!

Live Your Life with Purpose!

When I asked Kyle how he learned his work ethic... He mentioned, ..."I started learning it when I was young. That's 20 plus years learning the "technicalities" of ethics and not just common sense ones; like don't be a bad person and rip people off."

Being born in Wailuku, Hawaii I have a natural relaxed spirit about me. Everyone who knows me or meets me, thinks highly of me. My financial background speaks volumes to business owners!

It's always so interesting to me to hear how successful people do business and their stories behind their success. The mindset for success is the same no matter what country you're from.

We're all working together to make the lives of our clients and the world a better place!"

When I was 9 years old my dad made me read the bible every day. I asked him, “Why do I need to read this?” He asked me, “Did you read the 10 commandments?” And made me recite them to him. I didn’t know what they meant. My dad explained them to me, how they applied to life, and why it was important. That was when I first learned about ethics in life.

I learned my work ethic from my family. Everyone that I can think of in my family – parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins were always busy doing things whether working in their profession or at home working in the yard or farm.

Since I was a young kid, I’ve always been passionate and motivated to work and make money. I’d go to the houses in my neighborhood and ask people if I could wash their car. I’d take the limes from our tree and lemons from my friend’s yard, and we would make lemonade and limeade and sell it on the side of the street. I mowed the lawn every week for my weekly allowance. I’d pick jasmine flowers to make lei’s and ride my bike to the florist and sell the lei’s.

The day I turned 15 my mom picked me up from school and took me to apply for my first job at McDonald’s. That was when I learned a lesson in work ethic because some of the workers were so lazy and it annoyed me that they just didn’t care and wouldn’t try. It didn’t make sense to me why someone would show up to work, get paid, and expect to do nothing or do as little as possible.

I never thought about working as if it’s hard or not. I just show up and do what I’m asked and I do what needs to be done. It’s just a matter of if I liked or hated doing it. I wasn’t the smartest person, but I always knew that if I put in hard work and attention to whatever it was, I usually was happy with the result. If I wasn’t happy with the result, I’d keep working at it until I got the result I wanted or I would move on to something else. I’ve been lucky that most of the jobs I’ve had in my life gave me the opportunity to be able to work with my friends. And I learned that it’s always better to work with a team. That’s how I’ve always worked and lived my life with family and friends.

I enjoy getting things done, constantly being better and doing better, winning, and competition with others and myself. There have been so many experiences and relationships in my life. And at the time when I was experiencing it growing up I didn’t know it, but it instilled values in me and built my character and work ethic the way it is today.
